Watermarks are hard Carrie, I don't love mine but it works and it is me. I think it looks great and if it is you, so keep it!
Alright, alright....geez, I'll comment! Sometimes, I just like to be a stealth follower of blogs. Is there any harm in that?
Now, as for your watermark...I really love your little picture/design, but maybe the font for your name is a little too scrolly??? But, then again, does my opinion really matter? Your photos are incredible and that's what really matters, right?!
okay!
a few months ago i read a post from a pretty prestigious photographer about how she hates watermarks and thinks they are a little corny. ever since i read that post, i've started to really dislike watermarks! As she put it, "Ansel Adams didn't use watermarks, so why should we?" So, I guess I'm just not too crazy about watermarks in general.
however, you really feel you need one, then go right ahead!
Ok- This is what I think- I do like it but because it is so long- I think it may need to be more simple font. Or - shorten it to Carrie Elton and maybe make it more transparent.
ok- i just went and looked again- i like it on the ones you make it a little more transparent- like the first and third one in the slide show. It makes it less in your face and then i like how fancy it is.
I agree with the transparency. Unfortunately you need a watermark for business purposes but I like how it's small.
PS have I mentioned how much I *love* your B&W's??????????????
here's the link to the article i was talking about. it was written by a professional photographer:
http://nicolehill.blogspot.com/2009/11/beware-of-trends.html
I'm still not sure why you *have* to have a watermark on your images. (nicole hill the author above, for example, doesn't use them).
thanks for letting me be the devil's advocate! you know i love you carrie and your photographs!
I like it- it's artistic and not too intrusive. But I'm just a caveman.
the main reason is because other "up and coming photographers" may try and claim your work as their own. I use one.. only recently after one of the photographers I follow Had three of her pictures stolen by a photographer in a different state. They were being used for an Advertisment. So I think its a good idea. I love yours. Its very original.
hi carrie, you take fabulous pictures! i don't know you, but i grew up in utah and i think that your watermark fits your photography style as well as the region you're in.i'd stick with it. definately don't go with a cutesy scrapbooky font, it's been way over played and i think that especially in utah it's been pigeonholed into a very specific demographic. is the water mark to gather more clients, get people to start recognizing your work, just for on the web to keep people from downloading for free?
